Gerry Montgomery, the Mayor of the Four Rivers Region, convened an ad hoc panel to investigate the feasibility of developing a maritime museum complex in the region. The River Heritage Center (RHC) was founded in 1992 and is governed by a board of directors. W.R. Coles and Associates and Verner Johnson & Associates, Inc. were contracted by the board of directors to conduct research on behalf of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Almost 250 residents in the surrounding area were asked about the museum as part of the study.A fantastic post.

 

In 1996, the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York is converting a section of the Petter complex into a river museum, which will be open to the public. The reconstruction of the second floor, which was named after Paul Walker, the founder of Walker Boat Yard, was finished in 2000-2001 and dedicated to him. After that, in 2005, the Master Plan and Expansion Study were completed. One of the many new river industry exhibits constructed in 2008 is a contemporary boat simulator, as well as a classroom and office space. River Discovery Center has been given a new name.

24 Hours on the River – In this exhibit, visitors will have the chance to take a turn at the pilot wheel and see how busy the river traffic has been during the previous 24 hours or even up to a week in the past. The Owens Island confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee rivers is shown in this photograph taken from the museum’s rooftop via a camera mounted on the building’s roof. Description: The amount of traffic that passes down the river will be visible to the visitor throughout the night.
